Fells Reservation Bellevue Pond - Medford, MA
A new year begins with a new day...
I’m not much of a morning person! but sometimes a photographer has to get up before the sun to capture it waking up. 2013 starts with a photograph taken at sunrise. The fresh light stretched thru the trees and created golden rays across the frozen snow draped pond... New beginnings can be so beautiful.FEBRUARY 2013
Spot Pond, Medford, MA
After the Blizzard of 2013, I was quick to dust off my snowshoes and enjoy the fresh powder. I liked this shot because you can see how the wind created beautiful designs in the snow drifts... I'm probably one of the few New Englanders that hopes for more snow before the Spring!MARCH 2013
San Diego, CA
While walking on a trail along the West Coast, I spotted this tree. I was mesmerized by it's silhouette as various birds used it as a perch. Thankfully, this cormorant stayed long enough for me to frame the shot. I love how it almost seems to be watching the sun setting over the Pacific...APRIL 2013
Torrey Pines Natural Reserve (San Diego, CA)
While hiking, I was endlessly fascinated with these yellow flowers. I loved how the flowers were so close to the ocean and then learned they are called Sea Dahlia (Coreopsis Martitma). This frame struck me as having all the elements of that beautiful spring day: white cotton clouds, Pacific blue and blue sky meeting, golden rock, desert-like plants and the amazing yellow of the Sea Dahlias.MAY 2013
Everglades National Park - Florida
I haven’t spent much time in this part of the country and was amazed at how close this vast park was to the bustling metropolis (Miami). The palm trees in the background reminded me of Summer and isn’t May the time when Summer is so close we can feel it and want to fly toward it?!JUNE 2013
Wells, ME
I hiked for hours along wooded trails, marsh land and finally to the ocean. It was the perfect way to spend the first day of Summer. It's often when I turn my camera away from the main attraction (in this case, the Atlantic), that I find unique and beautiful subjects. I loved the long white cloud and positioned myself so the tree would be framed within it. While we don't see the water, this shot still felt like June to me.JULY 2013
Afton, VA
While visiting family in Virginia, we went to one of my favorite wineries, Veritas. This summer night was complete with a rain storm. I quickly ran to the field and found a frame with grapevines and a hint of the disappearing rainbow. It was a perfect Summer night if you ask me...AUGUST 2013
PROVINCETOWN, MA
I was so happy to return to P-Town this year with my family. I discovered a new hike through the dunes and was amazed how remote it felt just steps off highway 6. After walking through loose sand for almost an hour, I was rewarded with a nearly abandoned beach. This day was incredible with fog making every frame, look like a painting. I just love how the fog seems to swallow the landscape like a dream...SEPTEMBER 2013
ORLAND, ME
Sometimes life is foggy... While last month’s photo felt like a summer scene fading away, this photo felt more like an invitation. An invitation to my favorite time of year, Fall! While spending time in Maine with family and friends, I woke to a surreal scene. Fog engulfed our view and I quickly grabbed my camera to capture the incredible light. This shot had simplicity, mystery and a glimpse of a season emerging (the perfectly strewn leaves in the foreground).
Happy Autumn.NOVEMBER 2013
Muir Woods National Monument
Mill Valley, CA
While shooting in California, I had the opportunity to visit Muir Wood park with some dear friends. I was amazed at two aspects of this forest, the scale (of course) and maybe more notable to me as a photographer, the light. The redwoods create a dust of sorts and the fibers in the air create beams of light. It was the beams of light so determined to shine through these giants that made this place so magical to me.
